Welcome (back) to my new site, "hydrophilic.net" which has been resurrected
from the ashes of Google's free sites (formerly H2Obsession). Back around 2020, Google "upgraded"
their free sites which broke the look-and-feel of my site. By popular demand (and nerdy fun for myself)
I've brought the site back on a paid hosting platform. The download Google provided of my original site was corrupt,
so I've had to manually edit several pages. I hope their are no broken links left;
contact me if you discover a problem or have comments about my site.
Another historical note: before being on Google as H2Obsession, my site was "Hydradix" hosted by Yahoo! They terminated their free sites which is why I moved to Google... nothing cheaper than something free! I have intentionaly avoided the use of most obscenities. You will not find anything here that you would not find on broadcast television in America. However, since YOU CAN'T PLEASE ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME, it is possible you may find some things offensive. So, if you are easily offended, leave now. Otherwise, enjoy your visit and if you find yourself offended, don't say I didn't warn you!
Well, December 21st 2012 has come and gone, and the new Mayan Long Count has began...
all without the end of the world. Will the doom-sayers ever get it right?
Funny thing is, when they do get it right, they won't be around to say "I told you so" afterwards.
Speaking of The End, a number of supposedly educational television shows continue to talk about how our solar system should survive for another 4 billion years or so, based on the estimated "lifetime" of our sun. The word "lifetime" is not quite accurate as our star should continue to burn long after that, but around that time it is predicted to undergo a metamorphasis and grow into huge "red giant" which will burn up the inner planets, in particular this rock we call Earth. However, these educational shows seems to neglect the fact of a much more immenent threat: the Andromeda Galaxy! The evil menace, much larger than our Milky Way, is on a collision course with us! Our best astronomical calculations predict that it will rip our galaxy apart, scattering stars and solar systems across interstellar space. Only a small disruption of Earth's orbit would result in drastic, probably life-terminating, climatic changes. A large orbital disruption from an inter-galactic "collision" would surely mean death to life as we know it on our planet. This threat is much sooner than the "death" of our star. Not 4 billion years from now, but less than a 1 billion years. Perhaps within 100 million years. So The End is at hand... if you consider 100 million years into the future "at hand!" Everybody start preparing. Build shelters to protect the citizens and amass a space fleet to battle the menace of Andromeda. We'll teach that galaxy it can't bully us!
Over 400 thousand Americans died in year 2020 due to Corona Virus. That wasn't the end of the world either!
My condolences to those who lost loved ones during the pandemic.
