Screen shot of D64 Editor's main window listing files stored in a disk image (click for full-size image) This open-source (GNU GPL) program is written in VisualBasic and is a disk image / file editor. The original by Forrest Mook supports .D64 and .TAP images. I have expanded it to provide read-only support for .D71 and .D81 disk images and GEOS files. Click to download!

It runs on Windows 9x(95/98/ME) and NT (NT4/2K/XP/Vista). However drag-and-drop does not seem to work on Windows NT.

This program will also work on 64-bit versions of Windows (Vista, 7, 8, 10) but you will probably get an error like "Missing COMDLG32.OCX" when you first try to run it.  If this happens, try this:

  1. Download the OCX from this web page.
  2. Unzip and copy the OCX file to your WINDOWS\SYSWOW64 directory
  3. From an "administrator" command prompt, enter the magic words: REGSVR32 %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSWOW64\COMDLG32.OCX (you should get a response like "DLL successfully registered".)
  4. The program should run correctly from now on... (no need to repeat steps 1~3)

Three fonts are supplied in the download and should be copied to your system fonts folder (Windows/FONTS for Win9x or WINNT/Fonts for WinNT). On WinNT, a font error message appears to me at program start-up even though the fonts are installed and display correctly.

I discovered that Windows Vista (and presumably later versions, like Windows 7/8/10) will not allow you to copy the fonts from the download into your WINDOWS/FONTS folder using Windows Explorer.  If you copy them using a Command prompt, they will not be listed in the FONTS folder using Windows Explorer.  The correct way to install the fonts, on these newer systems, is right-click each font in the unzipped download, and click Install from the context menu.

I use it for browsing non-D64 disk images. This was for personal use but I am making it available for others to use or study. It has not been tested for write support although D64 writing may still work ... you have been warned!
